For many people in the construction industry, it is a very well-known idea that such trade is filled with hazards and it is known to be a high-risk job since it concerns making yourself vulnerable to the hazards in the workplace that are seen as necessities in order to get the job done.
There are so many accidents, both reported and unreported, surrounding the construction sites from falling to being hit with shrapnel as there are numerous ways to get injured in this line of work. So how can a construction firm or construction administrator ensure the safety of the site? Here’s how!
Anticipate Accidents
Technically any admin must be able to anticipate accidents. As it is a given in that line of work, it does not mean that it will just be accepted as it is. It should be anticipated in high-risk areas or operations during the building construction so that it can be addressed early on.
Anticipating brings the plan and contingency plan into the picture. Thus it can be followed in terms of protocol if an accident is anticipated. If it does not happen then it would still be considered a success, nevertheless. It should be foreseen as a given so that it can be met and addressed early on.
Do a Briefing for Major Movements
If there is major equipment running around the site. If there is a scheduled major operation around the area everyone should be briefed. Made sure that everyone should know when and where the operation would ensue. So that they would be ready for the needed preparation and possibly avoid danger-prone areas during that time.
For example, if there is a scheduled vacuum excavations that will be done on-site, it should be fired to the workers at least two days prior and they should be reminded during the time of excavation so that nobody will fall in harm’s way as a consequence of ignorance to what is going on.
Always Check for PPE
Always check for the personal protective equipment of the workers for that day’s shift. No matter their line of work even if there are just visiting the site for checking. They’d still be required to have this basic equipment to make sure that their safety is prioritized.
Even in plants and factories, if personnel go outside. They are required to have hardhats on because of the idea that nobody knows when an accident will happen and where. Thus, the need to have a PPE is always intact. Those who will not follow protocol should be reprimanded. Because it would be human lives that are at stake if they neglect their own safety.
As you are dealing with human beings no matter their line of work their lives are still valuable in the sense. They are still in need of the basic notion of safety and well-being. Even if their line of work is filled with hazards and danger to their lives.
