Felix Auger Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti will lock horns against each other in the semifinals of the Firenze Open 2022. The former is the top seed in Florence, whereas, the Italian is seeded third.
Felix Auger Aliassime has had a busy 2022 season, where he has not managed to meet his lofty expectations. The Canadian has won just one title this season, which came at the Rotterdam Open earlier this year. The youngster is now just two wins away from clinching the title at the Firenze Open, as he faces Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals.
Felix Auger Aliassime was ruthless in dispatching Brandon Nakashima in straight sets in the quarterfinals. The top seed survived a scare in the second round, where he battled past Oscar Otte in three sets. Felix has made it to a couple of semifinals this year, but has failed to clear this hurdle on numerous occasions.
Lorenzo Musetti received a bye in the first round by virtue of being the third seed. The Italian has had a seamless week in Italy so far, winning both his encounters in straight sets. The 20-year-old defeated Mackenzie McDonald in the quarterfinals, dropping just five games. He also managed to reach the semifinals of the Sofia Open a couple of weeks ago.
Felix Auger Aliassime has been serving really well this week in Italy. The Canadian has cracked up 20 aces in two matches, and is looking a strong contender for the title. However, Lorenzo Musetti has a reputation of bringing his A-game against higher ranked players, and will not go away that easily.
Moreover, Felix Auger Aliassime has not had the best couple of months on tour, facing a couple of early round exits. Hence, the top seed will aim to get a good start and assert his authority early on in the semifinals. Lorenzo Musetti has been very effective with his first serve this week, winning over 80% of those points.
