When two families finally wed after their horoscopes and stars align, this ritual takes place. They kept the Patrika on a yellow piece of fabric with the wedding date and contact information printed on it. Turmeric, betel nuts, and betel leaves will all be present as a tradition. Priests sing mantras to conclude the ritual after the parents of the couple exchange the Patrika.
Nichayathartham
This is the Reddy matrimonial engagement ceremony. A lit brass lamp, known as the Nila vilaku, will be present when the bride and groom exchange rings. The couple will receive blessings and presents from the elders in both families. Most importantly, with a priest’s assistance, they will also choose the muhurta moment during the ritual. The priest will determine an opportune period for the Reddy marriage by comparing the couple’s horoscopes.
Haldipaspu
Haldi is a common name for this vibrant and enjoyable Reddy matrimony ritual. At this event, the bride is the main attraction, thus she needs to look beautiful. The bride’s family members apply turmeric paste to her body during this ceremony. Soon after the wedding, the bride has a cleansing bath. Due to the use of turmeric, the bride will shine during the wedding ceremonies.
Pujas
The Reddy matrimony pre-wedding ceremony will conclude with pujas before the wedding ceremony starts. The bride will perform a pooja in honour of the fertility goddess Gauri. After entering the mandap, the groom would perform a puja for the Hindu god Ganesha. He does this to ask for blessings for a long and happy life.
The groom will do a rehearsed act in which he leaves the wedding to become a priest before the pujas. The Kashi yatra is a ritual that takes place in most Indian marriages. The groom cannot leave the wedding without being stopped by the mother or brother of the bride. They must remind him of his obligations and persuade him to wed the bride.
Kanyadaan
The bride will reach the mandap in a bamboo basket by her maternal uncle during the Kanyadaan ceremony. The Reddy Matrimony Day customs begin with this. That is the ideal way to get a princess to her wedding. The priests then ask for blessings from the ancestors of both parties going back seven generations.
Vivaaham
This ceremony signals the entrance and exit of the groom and the beginning of the wedding. The Kalyana mandapa provides a very pleasant and melodious atmosphere as the bride and groom arrive. After that, they will embellish the area with lovely flowers and furnishings. The background music will begin to play relaxing nadaswaram and thali as soon as the bride, groom, and family arrive. At the mandapa’s entrance, little girls are waiting with flowers, oil lamps, rice, turmeric, and rice. After the bride and groom enter the mandap, the wedding ceremony starts.
Muhurtham
When the groom ties a thali around the bride’s neck, it is a romantic moment. The thali is a conventional necklace made of yellow thread and adorned with a gold pendant. The bride and groom typically carry out this procedure while facing one another. The proper muhurtham, or hour, for this ceremony, is chosen by the priest. The term “Muhurtam” refers to the appropriate moment to carry out a ceremony, which is crucial at weddings. They play the dhol (drums) while the crowd applauds as the groom binds the thali.
Sapthapadi
The seven rounds, or pheras, follow this ritual. The bride and groom move in seven circuits around the fire while holding hands in a Reddy matrimony ceremony. This ritual is to symbolise that the bride and groom will be together forever.
Sthaalipaakam
The Sthaalipaakam ceremony puts an end to the Reddy matrimony. The bride’s foot fingers will receive a toe ring from the groom during this ceremony. This is comparable bride kneeling to present the ring and the groom accepting her as his wife for all time. The bride can also adorn her hand with black beads to ward off bad eyes.
Gruhapravesham
Following the ceremony, the groom’s family welcomes the bride and groom at home with blessings and music. Gruh and Pravesham both mean “house” and “entry,” respectively. The bride and groom, therefore, receive congratulations and blessings from the elders. They bless and wish the bride well as she enters the new family, starting their excellent and loving journey together!
