Truth be told, there are unthinkably a lot of things to consider if you’re about to venture into a bathroom remodel in Alhambra. To name just a few: there’s design and lighting, then there’s airflow and ventilation, not to mention fixtures, finishes, materials, paint, and of course the overall budget.

All of this can be completely overwhelming because when the time finally arrives and you ultimately decide to invest in creating a healthy home, you want it done right.

As expert remodelers, we’ve tackled more design-related challenges with clients than you might imagine. We are here to share with you a handful of considerations you need to keep in mind in an effort to make sure your master bathroom remodel are a success.

 1) Design for your master bathroom

For some, their bathroom design may not change, which is not a bad thing because it allows them to focus on other areas of their master bathroom remodel. That being said, before you turn a blind eye completely to making changes to existing design, here are a couple of things to consider around master bathroom layouts.

If possible you should approach redesigning master baths first, by looking at the overall function of the space before you wrap yourself in aesthetics. When it comes to bathrooms, there are thousands of variations, shapes, sizes, and configurations, but the last thing we want to do is guess which one is right for us. But you must be 100% sure that the design you choose, or decide to remodel as it is, really makes your life better.

And don’t forget that when we talk about the layout, we’re not just talking about where the shower is, but also how the plumbing fixtures are laid out, not just where the toilet is, but do you have enough space to enclose it, not just the best location for a freestanding tub, but also where the floor mounted tub faucet goes.

2) Lighting for your master bathroom

Two types of lighting are available for your bathroom:-

a) Natural Lighting

Of course, a master bathroom that’s flooded with a ton of natural light is definitely magical and an excellent proposition. In fact, layered light-filtering window coverings in a bathroom design actually lift the overall mood of the space and take the room to a whole new level. A space with plenty of natural light radiates feelings of warmth and happiness, but what if it doesn’t?

If natural light isn’t filtered properly or in an aesthetically pleasing way, it evokes the opposite emotions. Instead of warm and happy feelings, they will be hard and uncomfortable.

b) Artificial lighting

The key to adding lighting in your bathroom is to do it by design. Flipping through the glossy pages of Architectural Digest, Good Housekeeping and Elle Decor, you’ll notice that most well-designed bathrooms have multiple different natural and artificial light sources.

Think about it – vanity lights, recessed can lights, and task lights over the toilet. Maybe even mood lighting like spotlights over the tubs and a sleek quiet fan/light combo in the shower. However, when it comes to getting your lighting plan right, you really need to think about the individual activities that take place in your master bathroom.

3) Wake up to a warm floor

The radiant heat under the tiles warms them underfoot. But you don’t need to have it all over your house; you can simply add an electric mat to boost a bathroom’s existing heating system. It can take up to 45 minutes to heat up, so put it on a programmable thermostat to chase away the cold when the alarm clock goes off.

4) Choose the right ventilation

You must have a fan, but don’t treat it as an afterthought. For a master bathroom splurge on an ultra-quiet unit that won’t wake up others during late-night commutes.

Make sure it has enough power for back-to-back showers and set a timer so you can let it run for 20 minutes to remove the steam once you’re done.

5) Renewing the wiring

The 15-amp wiring in the bathroom of your ‘pre-war’ home has probably been abused from years of high-power hair drying. So don’t just swap GFCI outlets. Replace the wiring, too, with a dedicated 20-amp circuit and plenty of outlets for all the appliances you use, from electric shavers and toothbrushes to hair straighteners.
