When your newborn is slowly starting to grow and it’s time to teach them things such as introducing solids, it can be really challenging. For starters they might even ignore the food or throw up everything that you feed. So here are a few things you can do that might help!

Eat in front of them

Do not forget that your child is the most attentive person on the table. Even when it looks like they are not looking at you, you need to understand that they are. They want to do everything that their parents are doing. So, when you start with solids, whatever you make for them, make a little bit extra and put it on your plate. Eat it and make a face indicating that the food is delicious and start feeding them. They might make a face, reject it or throw a tantrum. Do not be let down.

Start with at least three spoons, beyond that if he/she is extremely difficult then stop. This is because you cannot force them completely. Also, you need to give their body to understand this new food which you have introduced. So, try the three spoons, if your baby wants more then go for it but she/he is being difficult stop right away and feed them milk so they are full.

Tomorrow will be another day so try again. Also, don’t forget just like you they are humans and they might not like same food every day. So, try new recipes and include a lot of vegetables in their food. Having a variety in their menu will also help you to discover your child’s likes and dislikes.

Get them their space

You should allow your child to eat by themselves under your supervision. This is going to be extremely messy but you need to let them learn. Get them baby feeding bowls that come with a spoon that is safe for them to use. Also, get a feeding chair and allow them to indulge. Be prepared for the mess, but eventually, they will learn. Once your child grows to a good age you can even teach them to clean up the mess but in the initial stages just let them enjoy and be easy on them.

Do not be let down

Always remember not to compare your child with someone else’s. If your friend’s baby accepted solids easily doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with your child. Everyone is in a different stage of growth. So, comparing will make it worse and you might take the frustration out on your child. In worst cases, if it’s really difficult you can always check with a doctor! Reading books and some tips should also help you.

Lastly, remember all these are different phases from the life of your child. Before you know it, your baby might not really be a baby anymore. So do not be let down, enjoy and cherish every moment of your life with them before it just becomes a memory.
