What to Expect in Every Pregnancy Trimester?

Pregnancy is a time of excitement and change. Together with the exciting feeling of having a new life growing inside your body comes the preparation you need for the big changes that are just about to come. If it is your first pregnancy, you’re not familiar yet with what would happen all throughout the course of your pregnancy journey.

Although your doctor would be there to help and support you. It is still important that you have an idea of what to expect during each trimester so you won’t feel caught off guard. Read along to learn more about the things that commonly happen in every trimester.

First Trimester

The first trimester is where your pregnancy journey begins. Once you’ve learned that you’re pregnant through a pregnancy test kit. It is important to contact your doctor immediately for your very first prenatal check-up. You’ll undergo a lot of tests on your first visit and your doctor would also conduct a general health check to see how your body is handling the pregnancy.

During this time, you need to start following a healthy lifestyle for the good development of the fetus. You’ll also notice some common pregnancy discomforts such as morning sickness, tiredness, and breast tenderness. You’ll also start to gain a few pounds since your body is adjusting to support the growing baby inside you.

Second Trimester

You’ll notice a lot of changes in your body from the first to the second trimester. Doctors usually schedule a prenatal check-up every 4 weeks. But could be more frequent if you have a high risk pregnancy since it needs closer monitoring and checks. Some women experience lesser discomforts during this time compared to the first trimester.

The tiredness and morning sickness usually goes away during this trimester. However, some have trouble sleeping at night and could experience other kinds of pregnancy discomforts like leg cramps, frequent urination, and heartburn. You’ll get to know the gender of your baby when you get an ultrasound during this trimester.

Third Trimester

You are almost near the due date during the third trimester. During this time, you’ll feel a lot of movements from your baby inside your womb. Your prenatal check-ups will be scheduled every two weeks now. It’s normal to feel really tired during this stage since your body. Which is doing a lot of work carrying and nurturing the baby inside.

The common pregnancy discomforts from the second trimester can still continue on accompanied by other body aches and pains. Since you are nearing the due date, you’ll experience some practice contractions in your uterus which is completely normal. When you notice extreme swelling in your extremities. Be sure to inform your doctor immediately since it could be a sign of high blood pressure caused by pregnancy.
