Michael van Gerwen aims to secure a sixth World Grand Prix at the expense of Nathan Aspinall when the pair collide in the final in Leicester on Sunday.
The Dutch sensation has dominated this prestigious double-start event over the past decade, securing his first PDC major title in Dublin in 2012 and going on to add a further four Grand Prix titles.
Van Gerwen has already picked up the Premier League and World Matchplay titles this season and boasts an emphatic record in televised finals, winning 43 of 54 contested in total.
The world number three began his run to the final here by brushing aside a struggling Gary Anderson in straight sets, before edging out Stephen Bunting in a fifth set decider.
He then registered the highest average of the tournament so far (99.3) in a 3-1 success over Chris Dobey, before ruthlessly whitewashing rival Peter Wright in four sets for the loss of just one leg in Saturday’s Semi-Final.
Aspinall, meanwhile, had previously never been beyond the Quarter-Final stage in three previous World Grand Prix appearances and finds himself in a first major final since the 2020 Premier League.
The former UK Open champion defeated fourth seed Michael Smith 2-1 in his opener before sensationally recovering from two sets behind to deny Danny Noppert in a fiery encounter.
He then battled his way to another deciding set victory over debutant Martin Lukeman and went on to dispatch 2020 champion Gerwyn Price 4-2 in an emotionally-charged Semi-Final.
