Migraine is the high-intensity throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head and three out of four people suffering from this condition are women. Several issues can cause migraine pain to develop like indigestion, anger, stress, intake of salty or spicy food, excessive exposure to sunlight, skipping meals, and alcohol. Fortunately, Ayurveda has treatments for cerebral atrophy, epilepsy, and migraine that are very effective and have no side-effects on the person using them, unlike allopathic medicines.
Let us see what are some of the migraine treatment in Ayurveda-
Migraine Treatment in Ayurveda-
People often ignore migraine pains thinking they are normal headaches. Some people take over the counter painkillers that initially help them but can stop its effects on the patients. Moreover, over the counter medications also have severe side effects on the human body and people can become addicted to them, damaging vital body organs like the liver.
Migraine in Ayurveda is Ardhavabedhaka meaning one-sided piercing and intense pain in the head. According to Ayurveda, people with migraine conditions dominated by Vata-Pitta Dosha suffer intense pain along with redness and burning sensation in the eyes. Migraine is also generally associated with a previous history of acidity and digestive issues.
Here are some migraine treatment in Ayurveda-
Treatment #1- Shirovasti:
The Ayurvedic treatment of Shirovasti is a specifically designed method which is effective in curing several problems related to the brain. It targets issues including depression, throbbing pain, and migraine. The therapist covers the patient’s head with a leather cap having a hollow space in the centre. The therapist then pours Ayurvedic medicine inside it that calms your mind while treating migraine. It is a very effective treatment as the medicine is directly administered to the head instead of taking the oral route.
Treatment #2- Shirodhara:
Another Ayurvedic treatment to cure migraine is Shirodhara. It impacts the nervous system of the patient, helping them relax effectively. The therapist pours a continuous stream of warm oil on the affected area during this therapy. The pouring creates a pressure on the affected area, putting the body into a relaxed state. Moreover, the vibrations caused by the pouring oil also relaxes the nervous system and the mind, calming down the pain.
Treatment #3- Kavala Graha:
The Kavala Graha is also commonly known as oil pulling and is yet another effective method to treat migraine. Kavala Graha therapy uses the fact that the nerves in our oral cavities are also connected to the brain. Ayurvedic medicines are filled in the oral cavities that help relax the brain. The treatment is helpful in relieving physical stress along with migraine pains.
Treatment #4- Sneha Nasya:
This therapy is similar to oil pulling or Kavala Graha. However, instead of filling oral cavities, the nasal pathway is used to introduce the Ayurvedic medicines into the body of the patient. This treatment also helps in reducing physical stress and migraine pains.
Treatment #5- Ayurvedic Supplements:
Ayurveda has many effective herbs that you can use to treat your migraine if you cannot take any of the above therapies. These herbs are known to treat patients for hundreds of years. These Ayurvedic herbs are Godanti Bhasma, Chandrakala Rasa, Kamadugha Rasa, Bhoonimbadi Kaadha, Shirah Shuladi Vajra Rasa, and Pathyadi Kaadha.
