Read some of what cleveland.com’s Joe Noga wrote about how Jose Ramirez’s hustle in the 10th inning was the turning point for the Guardians.

José Ramírez looked about as bad as he had all postseason in his first four plate appearances of Friday’s American League Division Series Game 2 at Yankee Stadium.

All that changed when he stepped into the batter’s box in the 10th.

The Guardians’ way on offense all season has been to run out every batted ball, every grounder, every flare into the outfield on the chance that putting pressure on an opposing defense can lead to something special. That’s exactly what Ramírez did to spark a two-run rally and give his team a lead.

Ramírez blooped a double to left field in front of New York’s Oswald Cabrera and hustled all the way to third base when Josh Donaldson threw the ball away in the 10th inning. He scored on Oscar Gonzalez’s bloop base hit to right to break a 2-2 tie as Cleveland went on to score a pair of runs and hold on for a 4-2 win and even the best of five series at one game apiece.

It was a perfect example of a Guardians’ style of play that stands in stark contrast to New York’s offense built built to hit three-run home runs. Ramírez’s hustle forced the Yankees to play their infield in, and that allowed Gonzalez’s hit drop in short right field. The next batter, Josh Naylor, drove a Jameson Tallion pitch over the head of Harrison Bader in center for an add-on run as Gonzalez scored all the way from first.

“Josey’s probably the only player in baseball that ends up on third on that ball,” manager Terry Francona said. “He got that coming out of the box and had the wherewithal to know he could get to third. That was pretty remarkable.”
