Sustainability results in a better future as it protects the ecosystem and improves the quality of life. It is a concept linked to the development of goods and services that meet the present needs of humans without compromising future generations’ capacity to fulfill their individual needs. It refers to a concept that values the environment as an exhaustible resource. It is crucial to use the environment with its resources rationally. This, in turn, will protect the planet for the good of the environment, living beings, and of course, humanity.

Hillandale Farms- a firm believer and practitioner of sustainability

Many people associate the term “sustainability” with the environment; however, it goes much beyond that. It can be looked at from various angles, including social responsibility and economic development. These concepts also include the carrying capacity of the Earth, the sustainability of the ecosystem, occupations, behavior patterns, and more.

In a society that is sustainable, humans live in harmony with the environment, conserving the resources of the planet for future generations to enable everyone to enjoy social justice and enjoy a better quality of life.

Keeping in mind the above, esteemed names like Hillandale Farms, a leading farm in Pennsylvania, believes in the core value of sustainability and deploys emerging technologies and techniques for enhancing the quality of life for their customers, employees, and chickens. They go the extra mile to reduce the impact on the environment.

Helping the planet with sustainable technologies, techniques, and practices

In the olden days, manure in chicken houses could stay there for five months. This esteemed Farm was one of the first organizations to implement a belt system to clean a third of their homes daily. The Farm also recycles manure as fertilizer and designs their houses with powerful fans to improve the quality of air for every human to optimal levels. The Farm ensures there are no spill-offs into their crucial water systems like Chesapeake.

Reducing the carbon footprint in the environment

In a bid to reduce its carbon footprint and keep it to its minimum levels, the company maintains its farms close to its customers so that it can optimize an increasing amount of solar power and wind. In February 2011, the Farms invested $3.5 million in a water-treatment plant to manage water for washing its eggs in a responsible and intelligent manner. With the help of a nitrification and denitrification process, this water used for washing eggs is purified, filtered, and later returned in a way that is environmentally sustainable to the ground.

The deployment of solar power

The Farm deploys solar power at many of its facilities and has worked in close association with the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, which leverages resources for driving investment to boost the clean energy infrastructure of the state.

Hillandale Farms also deploys an in-house composting technique in their high-rise layer homes to produce dry and light compost that can be spread extensively. This technique also enhances pest control and reduces the potential for files that revolve around the compost, with the extra advantage of reducing its dependence on chemical products to keep these flies away.
