Do you want to know which components are on your inside the PC? Then these tools will help. They provide comprehensive detailed information and help with hardware problems.

An analysis program is able to precisely name every component of your PC. This way you can see if it contains Windows-compatible hardware or if it meets the minimum requirements of new games. This information can be helpful, for example, if a warranty claim is made against the manufacturer and details are required. Some programs also offer detailed diagnostics and built-in performance tests for the processor, memory, and hard drive.

But the Windows tool Msinfo32 already provides initial information about the hardware in your computer. It sometimes also shows the manufacturer of the components, which is important when searching for suitable device drivers. Any computer store will help you.

Windows Device Manager is the first stop for hardware

If a device causes problems after installing a new driver, for example, the first way is to go to the Windows device manager, which you can access by right-clicking on the Windows logo in the taskbar at the bottom left and the corresponding entry in the context menu. Alternatively, enter devmgmt.msc in the search field or open a command line with the Win-R and “cmd” keys. Type devmgmt. MSC and then press Enter to launch Device Manager. In normal operation, this only shows the connected or existing devices. To display all devices, enter the command in the command line

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

and confirm with the Enter key. When you next start the Device Manager, it shows the menu command “Show displayed devices” under “View”. If this option is switched on, devices that are not active are also displayed.

View hardware and status summaries with Speccy

Does Speccy have an answer to the question:?What exactly is inside my computer?? The analysis of the system takes only a few seconds. The tool then displays all the information found in one interface.

Speccy brings important information about the components of your PC on the monitor. The tool provides hardware and status overviews in a compact form that goes beyond the information provided by Windows onboard resources. The free software is also useful when you feel your system is unstable. This could be because one of the components in your PC is getting too hot. When the program starts, Speccy first scans the device information available in Windows and tries to collect further system information.

Depending on the PC equipment, the process takes up to 30 seconds. The evaluation lists CPU type, RAM equipment, motherboard type, and graphics card. The same applies to the storage drives, network, and operating system details.

The category list on the left side of the window also serves as a navigation menu. For some components, the values of the corresponding temperature sensors and an estimate of the temperature are also displayed. As long as the values here are in the green range, everything is fine. Otherwise, you’ll need to provide more cooling to the overheated component. The determining system information can be saved as a file in text format or printed out for documentation purposes. Caution: Your Windows serial number is also contained in the output report file.

Determine information from the processor and graphics card

The free program CPU-Z is an indispensable helper to get information about the PC processor. In addition to the type designation, for example, the designation of the slot in which the processor is located is important. You need this “package” information if you want to install a more powerful processor on the PC. “Core Voltage” is the core voltage with which the processor is supplied by the motherboard. The information under “Core Speed” is also interesting: If the PC is in sleep mode, the clock frequency is usually lower than normal because the processor is running in energy-saving mode. On the remaining tabs, CPU-Z gives you details about the motherboard, the memory modules, and the graphics unit.

With the free tool GPU-Z, you get precise information about your graphics card or your graphics chip and its function. The freeware program GPU-Z analyzes the graphics card or the graphics chip and displays the data clearly in an information window. GPU-Z informs you about the name, the version, the chipset, the driver and the driver version, the memory and the clock speed as well as the GPU, the DirectX version, and the card type.

With Hwmonitor, data such as CPU temperature, CPU supply voltages, and utilization can be read out. This tool also provides information about the graphics processor and the temperature of hard drives. HWmonitor reads the sensors installed on the motherboard and lists all data in real-time. The program provides valuable details on the heat development of the processor, especially for ambitious users and PC tuners. If desired, the data can be saved as a text file on the hard disk and evaluated later.
