We’ve already received a pretty clear idea of what Google’s first wristwatch will look like ahead of its forthcoming release. This week, we also get a look at the Pixel Watch box.
A Reddit thread in the r/PixelWatch forum has revealed the packaging for the gadget Google believes will compete for a spot among the top smartwatches. The leak appears to have originated from a Target in Washington, D.C., so it appears that this is the genuine deal.
Despite the box’s conventional Google appearance, there were some noteworthy characteristics. The story was initially reported by 9to5Google(opens in new tab), who pointed out that “with Fitbit” is situated in the bottom right corner of the box.
This Fitbit connection is noteworthy, especially given that it’s the second time we’ve heard indications of further Fitbit interaction with the Google ecosystem. Since Google’s $2.1 billion acquisition of the fitness tracker business in 2019, the two brands have stayed mainly independent. However, Google stated this week that Fitbit will require a Google account for new users beginning in 2023.

Still, although we may expect some degree of Fitbit connectivity with the Pixel Watch, it remains to be known what that integration will be. Perhaps the fitness monitoring elements of the watch will connect with a user’s Fitbit app. If this is the case, it will be the only WearOS wristwatch with such a capability.
Another intriguing idea would be for Fitbit Premium users to be able to access extra Pixel Watch capabilities such as monitoring for new workout kinds, enhanced sleep tracking, or increased guided meditation skills. All of this is speculative, but it would further motivate people to subscribe to the still-new service.
In 9to5 According to Google’s reports, the size of the box suggests that the Pixel Watch bands will not be linked to the watch. This appears to be a logical conclusion based on the photographs. Google is employing a proprietary band connection, so this appears to be a step to ensure consumers understand how the distinct bands function.
Google Pixel Watch: Release date
While we don’t know when the Google Pixel Watch will be released, all indicators point to it being announced during the Google Event on October 6. Given that stores appear to be getting units already, it would be a huge surprise if the event ended without a formal announcement of Google’s entry into the wristwatch industry. However, according to one report, the Pixel Watch will be released after the Pixel 7, which is also expected to be shown on October 6.
When the Pixel Watch is completely introduced — recall, we had a sneak peek at it in the spring — we’ll be able to see how it compares to the competition. Apple recently unveiled three new Apple Watch models: the Apple Watch SE (2022), the Apple Watch Series 8, and the high-end Apple Watch Ultra. Samsung also debuted the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro earlier this year, so anyone seeking for a new wristwatch now have plenty of alternatives.
