What digital camera works best with old lenses?
The Sony a7 MkII is the current champion for giving old lenses new life. Its bright, stabilized, enlargeable viewfinder makes focussing vintage lenses simpler than it was on their original film cameras.
Because the image is stabilized, you can zoom into the viewfinder in real time to achieve precise focus while still being able to see what you’re doing.
With a full-frame camera, you can see the entire field of view, and the image stabilization reduces camera shake. With the release of the A7 MkIII, it is now reasonably priced. For just about every brand and fit of lens, an adaptor is accessible.
- Canon
Canon offers two different mounts for mirrorless camera lens
EOS-M for smaller, less expensive half-frame models and RF for larger, more superior full-frame models. While the smaller EF-S lenses can only fit EOS-M cameras with the Mount adaptor EF-EOS M, any Canon EF DSLR lens will function flawlessly with either system with the proper Canon adaptor.
RF cameras are unable to use EF-S lenses. Canon’s M and RF lenses are orphans because they only work with mirrorless cameras that have the corresponding M and RF mounts.
You can choose between more recent RF lenses and older EF lenses with an adaptor if you have an RF mirrorless camera. Both focal lengths are superb.
A new, larger Z mount for Nikon mirrorless cameras was only introduced in 2018. F mount lenses can be used with Z mount cameras with the use of an adaptor, however this may be more bother than it’s worth.
Using the FTZ converter, the new Nikon Z mount is compatible with all vintage Nikon lenses. With AF-S, AF-I, and AF-P lenses, it functions flawlessly. However, you lose autofocus when using AF-D and AF lenses, and you also have to manually open and close the aperture.

Three brand-new systems Sony E mount, Fuji X mount, and Samsung NX mount each have their own new lenses that are incompatible with anything else.
Why did they act in this way? The cameras and mirrorless camera lens are tiny. However, there are lots of adaptors that enable manual use of older lenses.
